The Results of the Print Auction

The print auction is over, everything sold has been carefully packaged and dispatched to the successful bidders by a team of dedicated genetically modified pigeons and should be gracing the walls of satisfied printophiles in due course!

The total amount raised by the auction is £162.50 – all of which has been deposited as a donation to my daughter’s fundraising account here.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part, whether you made a bid (sorry if you missed out!), retweeting and reposting the auctions, the comments and all the ‘likes!’ Thank you.

Print Auction for Charity

I am putting up 10 prints for auction to raise money for East African Playgrounds, a charity that provides playground equipment for disadvantaged communities and refugees in Uganda.

The project provides opportunities for young people to make a real change for children in East Africa and relies on volunteers to work with local people to improve their school facilities and encourage play for young children who are often required to work and have no opportunities to simply be children.

My daughter, currently studying at the University of York, is planning to go to Uganda later this year to take part in such a project and is raising funds by various methods, including a 10k sponsored run! All monies raised from the auction will go directly to this*.

The prints are all from my archive, some of which are the very last ones, never to be reprinted! The work is all my own and each piece is signed and numbered where appropriate. Many of them are prints that have been recorded in progress and featured on my blog.

The first print is a large(ish) screenprint and apart from my own copy, this is the very last one…

I am setting the starting bid for each print at £10 and hope to raise as much money as possible for this.

The auctions will all be on EBAY and will begin on Saturday 3rd March, with a different print launched each day. I will also be posting on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram – please spread the word!

Announcement

Ladies and Gentlemen of the internet, and especially those in the East Anglian area of Britain, you are cordially invited to:

I am honoured to be exhibiting some of my work amongst well established artists at this fine independent gallery in King’s Lynn in a couple of weeks time. All the works are inspired by the title, and will feature printmaking, photography, sculpture and mixed media pieces.

The exhibition is a King’s Lynn Festival fringe event that runs for the entire duration of the festival, which is a long established cultural celebration that attracts big names and lots of visitors to the town each year.

Greyfriars Art Space is an independent artist led initiative that provides professional exhibition space and affordable studio workspace, directly opposite the Town’s iconic Greyfriars Tower. Please support your local arts spaces and galleries.

I’ll post a little more in the week before, but for now, put it in your diary!

Lino

I completed cutting the first three lino blocks and decided to do a few test prints to check how things were looking. I was not totally happy with one or two areas and wanted to check that had nailed a few details too, and a couple of prints on a cold but bright afternoon seemed like a good idea.

Because these were test prints I rummaged around and gathered a handful of sheets of leftovers and cracked open the black ink.

I’m generally quite pleased with the results but need to do some refining and cleaning up. A good start though.

I mentioned last time that I had bought some new tools. These are actually woodcarving tools and are a little bigger than what I’m used to. The four on the left are from my new Gerstaecker set and the one one the right is my trusty Abig that I am still using as well. I rather fancy some of those nifty Pfiel tools, but the Yorkshireman in me still baulks at the price, but you never know…

More lino shenanigans as it occurs…

Back on the block

LESTARET-lino-flat-1

I’ve been cutting some new lino blocks today after making a batch of drawings over the weekend. These are intended for inclusion in an exhibition later this year, so I’m only going to show some works in progress and close-ups so that I don’t reveal too much for now!

I have another two blocks drawn up ready to cut and three more ready to transfer to lino – just waiting for a new lino delivery. I have already bought some new tools which I’ll share another time.

I love the smell of cut lino in the morning…
